Creative people are more concerned with what might be than with what is or what should be. But we are as much concerned with the health of society as is the firefighter or the physician. Fear can stop us all, but in different ways. When a creative person is afraid, the future becomes impenetrable. What the future might be -- after the fire is put out and proper order is restored -- is impossible to see, and we relinquish responsibility to the politician and the preacher. The solitude of creativity becomes unbearable.
We begin to feel like a dreamer happiness forgot -- until someone or something lifts us up.
